Education and Life-Opportunity for Growth

My educational history has allowed me to grow in my nursing career, but I feel the need to expand my horizons at a higher level by obtaining a master's degree. I believe Loyola University will equip me with leadership skills necessary for growth to accomplish my career goal to aid in improving community access to health care needs.

My nursing career began as a Practical Nurse, but went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing while caring 3 children, as a single parent. My work experience nursing includes long-term care, oncology, medical-surgical, home health care, public health, child health, school nursing, and as a supervisor. Today my career path remains in public health, as the Immunizations Action Project (IAP) Coordinator for Virginia Department of Health, Peninsula health District. My responsibility includes serving all people, across the life span, as well as collaborating with community partners, and other entities.

Professionally, I am pleased with my accomplishments and have flourished in this role. My experience has allowed me to seek out leadership positions within the public health field. The culmination of my career path was the achievement of being chosen to participate in a special leadership program. My hope is to grow both personally and professionally with this achievement, however, with a strong unction to move upward in my education, I feel there is something more for me to do in serving the community.

I believe Loyola's online master's degree program will be convenient for me to accomplish my career goal, while I remain in my current employment role. Also, Loyola University will better equip me to gain leadership skills necessary for growth, thus to fulfill my passion to aid in the improvement of community access to health care.
