Dr. Trudi Stafford is an adjunct professor for the nursing program. Her academic preparation began with the completion of her bachelor’s degree in nursing from what was then known as Northeast Louisiana University in 1977. She later completed her master’s degree in health care administration in 1990, and her doctorate degree in nursing in 2008 from Texas Woman’s University in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Stafford began her professional nursing career in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. In 1979, she completed training in cardiovascular perfusion at the Texas Heart Institute School of Perfusion. In her 22 years at the Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Stafford held a leadership position focusing on perfusion technology education and research. While there, Dr. Stafford co-authored one of the most widely-used perfusion training textbooks of its time.
In 2001, Dr. Stafford returned to the field of nursing and held expanding leadership roles including chief nursing officer positions at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center - McCandless, Baylor All Saints Medical Center, and Ochsner Medical Center. In April 2016, she retired from her Chief Nursing Officer position at Ochsner Medical Center to form a consulting company, Stafford & Associates, LLC.
