BLEND Program: Online RN to MSN Bridge
RNs With a Non-Nursing Bachelor's Degree May Enter Loyola’s MSN Program Without Obtaining a BSN Degree
The Bridge to Leadership Education in Nursing at a Distance (BLEND) at Loyola University New Orleans is a two-course entry option designed specifically for active RN’s with non-nursing bachelor’s degrees who would like to enroll in the online MSN with specialization in Health Care Systems Management (MSN-HCSM) program.
Bridge options are developed for nurses who have already earned an undergraduate bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing, but wish to purse their graduate degree in nursing. The programs are designed to “bridge” your professional nursing experience and training with the foundational knowledge you need to be successful in a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program.
Loyola’s BLEND is the Shortest Online Bridge to MSN Available
The BLEND option is composed of the undergraduate nursing courses that are prerequisites to beginning the graduate-level coursework in Loyola’s MSN-HCSM. This 6-credit bridge option is divided into two 3 credit hour courses, including a 45 hour practicum experience requirement. One course will run for 7 weeks of a 16 week semester, and the other course will run for the full 16 week semester. These two bridge courses cover important themes including:
- Population Health
- Health Promotion
- Current Issues
- Professional Communication
The BLEND option (MSN Bridge) is currently the shortest online bridge to MSN available.
Beginning Your Online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Students who successfully complete the BLEND option (MSN Bridge) may continue directly into the online MSN-HCSM program. Focused on leadership strategies, the emphasis in Health Care Systems Management covers all aspects of nursing administration, from disease prevention and health promotion to workforce management. The online MSN-HCSM provides the flexibility to address challenges and professional opportunities as a nursing manager, director or healthcare executive.
The unique asynchronous format of the online environment allows students the flexibility to pursue their educational goals while accommodating other responsibilities.
A BLEND Student Experience:
"For me, I was attracted to Loyola because I did not have an undergraduate degree in Nursing and Loyola had a unique BLEND Program. This program allows people with non-Nursing Bachelor's degrees to go on to the MSN degree program. Dr. Tumulty was willing to work with me to pilot the BLEND Program online. I appreciated her working with me, because I wanted to get the credential but I didn't want it to be redundant. I wanted to be sure I was enhancing my knowledge and she assured me I would be able to. And she was right – it's been great!"
