RN to MSN Degree Requirements


Admission Requirements

Students are admitted into the MSN program based on a thorough review of all required materials provided to the Health Care Systems Management Faculty Committee of the School of Nursing. Students may be admitted unconditionally or provisionally.

PhotoRequired material includes:

  • A non-nursing bachelor's degree in any field
  • The undergraduate equivalent of three semester credit hours in Statistics
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all prior undergraduate work
  • Official transcripts from each college/university attended
  • A current unrestricted RN license to practice in the United States; a copy of the license must be submitted with the application form
  • Three recommendations (on the Loyola form) from persons knowledgeable about the applicant's aptitude for graduate school (e.g. former professors or master's prepared Nursing Supervisors)
  • A typed goal statement, approximately one page in length, describing your professional goals and reasons for pursuing a graduate degree
  • Proof of criminal background check and drug test through http://www.CertifiedBackground.com
  • Submission of an application including an application fee of $40

MSN Degree Requirements

  • A BSN degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, or a bachelor's degree in any field and completion of Loyola's BLEND Program
  • A current and unrestricted RN license to practice in the United States
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all prior undergraduate work
  • The undergraduate equivalent of three credit hours in statistics
  • Prior to graduation, you must have earned 36 credit hours of graduate coursework, 12 of which are devoted to core courses and 24 of which are devoted to Health Care Systems Management major courses.

Nursing State Restrictions

Due to individual state regulations, Loyola University New Orleans is currently not accepting students from the following states:

  • New York
  • Arkansas
