RN to MSN Degree Requirements

Students are admitted into the MSN program based on a thorough review of all required materials provided to the HCSM Faculty Committee of the School of Nursing. Students may be admitted unconditionally or provisionally.

Required material includes:


  • A non-nursing bachelor's degree in any field
  • A current unrestricted RN license to practice in the United States; a copy of the license must be submitted with the application form
  • Certificate of Professional Liability Insurance (Must denote coverage of $1,000,000 per claim and $3,000,000 aggregate)
  • Submission of an application
  • Submission of an application fee of $40
  • Official transcripts from each college/university attended
  • Three recommendations (on the Loyola form) from persons knowledgeable about the applicant's aptitude for graduate school (e.g. former professors or master's prepared Nursing Supervisors)
  • A typed goal statement, approximately one page in length, describing your professional goals and reasons for pursuing a graduate degree
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all prior undergraduate work
  • The undergraduate equivalent of three semester credit hours in Statistics
