Dr. Datta joins the adjunct faculty at Loyola with an extensive career in research and teaching and a desire to push advancements in cancer diagnostics and treatments forward. Dr. Datta’s research focus includes role of vesicle biology, particularly exosomes in Cancer, Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms as Cancer Biomarkers. She is currently working on a NIH/NCATS funded grant investigating drug repositioning and inhibitors of exosomes in Prostate Cancer.
Dr. Datta received her Bachelors of Engineering in Biotechnology from India. Thereafter she decided to further her education at Tulane University in New Orleans and received her PhD in Pharmacology in 2013. Between 2007 and 2013 she served as teaching assistant to Departments of Molecular Biology and Pharmacology. She was then selected to be a fellow at Tulane Urology where she continues her research in the field of Cancer and teaches and mentors Masters, Doctorate and MD students.
In the past Dr. Datta has co-written and won funding for BMAP3, a developmental project grant: Minority Biospecimen/Biobanking Geographic Management Program for Region 3 to study Sox9 and FAK expression as indicators of aggressive breast cancer in African American women and written and received funding for the Tulane Cancer Center’s Matching Funds grant.
Dr. Datta reviews manuscripts regularly for Cancer Letters (Elsevier), Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group) and Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases (Nature Publishing Group), Cancer (ACS), Journal of Cell Dearth, Gene Regulations and Systems Biology, Clinical Medicine Insights: Therapeutics, Drug Target Insights and Cancer Growth and Metastasis (LA). She is currently working as an editor for Intech Publishing on a book titled “Current protocols in Molecular Biology”.
Dr. Datta is the 2015 recipient of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Helmsley Scholarship for interdisciplinary scientists.
Teaching is a privilege. Through research and education we are able to enrich the society and equip it with future researchers and educators. We pass on our knowledge to those who will go onto help and serve others. Our profession allows us to serve both God and Science for generations.
